Young Musicians Course
The Young Musicians' Course provides an ideal environment for children to be motivated by each other as each lesson they learn important musical skills including keyboard and piano performance, ensemble playing, improvisation, singing and reading music.

Subjects

- Singing: Students will explore the musical score to sing with expression, focusing on articulation, Italian terms, dynamics, and other details.
- Repertoire: Students will continue to enjoy the benefits of mutual learning in a master class style environment. An individual piano teacher will guide the student as they focus on particular techniques and expression.
- Keyboard harmony: Using their harmony and accompaniment skills students will improvise and create four-handed duets to play with their classmates. Traditional chord symbols will be explored.
- Arrangement: Drawing on various ideas from existing repertoire pieces, students will arrange melodies into larger musical works.
- Ensemble: Students will continue to encourage one another to achieve a high standard of performance and celebrate their final polished result. They will experience the way ensemble parts combine to form a substantial work.
Achievements
At the end of the Young Musicians' Course students will be at approximately Grade 9 level in the Yamaha Grade Examination System, and similar to the equivalent of Grade 1 or 2 in the Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB) examination system.
